Asian Sofa Materials Exhibition:
Three Customer Concerns When Choosing Automated Cutting Solutions

On March 18, our company participated in the 25th Asian Sofa Materials Exhibition held in Guangdong. The exhibition has a great deal of influence on the Asian soft furniture production industry with 80% of China's furniture manufacturers participating, as well as sofa manufacturers from other countries, including Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. In addition to the automatic cutting equipment, other aspects of sofa production are represented, such as design solutions, wooden frames, lines, sponge machines, viscose, etc.

Our company participates in the exhibition to help customers understand the automatic cutting of sofas in plywood and plywood frames. On display were two types of CNC cloth cutting machines (SCL and SFK) and a plywood cutting machine (AMO1325). During the four-day event, we saw many of our current customers and were able to establish cooperative arrangements with new customers.

Since many sofa manufacturers are facing rising production costs and increased competition, automated production remains the primary concern. Compared with previous exhibitions, customers are now more deliberate in choosing automation solutions. They are more educated about the equipment and choose that which coincides with their actual production status according to their exact conditions. From our conversations with many customers, it was evident that sofa manufacturers have three major concerns when choosing an automatic cloth cutting plan.

1. Fear of change

This is a common situation in any endeavor. In this industry, manufacturers tell us: “My workers do not understand computers. How could they ever learn to operate the CNC equipment?" So the sofa makers balk at switching from the manual cutting of the cloths to CNC cloth cutting. Sofa manufacturing is a traditional industry not always open to “newfangled” methods. The thought remains that the workers cannot operate automatic cloth cutting machines, so many sofa manufacturers grapple with the problems of traditional production rather than resolve them with automatic cutting solutions.

2. Making a choice

We often hear, "Should I choose the SCL series or the SFK series?" from our customers. We, of course, take the time to explain the technical differences between the two machines, but, at the end of the day, the customers must choose. We provide two different fabric cutting solutions to accommodate our customers. Different customers have different production conditions, such as the status of their development, the annual production volume, and/or their budget. We want to be able to serve all of the customers’ needs.

3. Reluctant acceptance

The sofa manufacturer will say to me, “It was too difficult to recruit cutting-off workers. I have no choice but to use your fabric cutting machine.” These are the customers who acquire the equipment as a last resort. It’s not an uncommon situation. Many of us tend to wait until there the problem is right there in front of us before we search for solutions. Few of us think of “preventive maintenance,” the ways in which we can ward off problems. Therefore, it is not until sofa manufacturers are forced into purchasing the equipment and accepting digital intelligent production that they admit that automated production is necessary for their companies to not only survive but thrive.
